I was searching craigslist this morning and found a local craft fair that will run Tuesday thru saturday from now till Christmas. I contacted her. She only has 4 vendors. No one else has products close to what I make.

Cost is $5 a week for advertising. 25% commission as a booth rent fee. SHe is advertising on facebook, thrifty nickel and all local outlets ( community calendars etc)

all items are ran thru a central cash register with tax and cc machine available.

I asked the bf if he thinks it's a fair price but he has no clue either. For you ladies out there who have crafts in fairs and rent booths, is this a fair price? Or is it a bad idea?

I don't have anything to compare it to, but it doesn't seem very expensive to me! I say go for it.

I don't have a TON of experience, but 25% seems steep. Again, I could be wrong there. But if you charged a little more for your stuff, you wouldn't have to eat so much of that cost. $5/wk sounds good, especially if you feel that it's well-advertised. It's also good that you'll be unique there. That always helps (well, that USUALLY helps--make sure you're not the only handmade vendor in a sea of Mary Kays and Avons, for example).

Then, go for it! If you're looking to get on your local craft circuit, those can be hard to break into. I've found that, in my area, meeting fellow craft vendors is just about the only way to become privvy to all the pertinent info in time.
