I've crocheted since i was 8 or 9, and I've made mostly blankets and skarves. I've made one or two ponchos. I've just started knitting a couple years ago and have a couple projects going right now....haven't actually finished any yet =)

I crochet. My grandma taught me several years ago. She taught me to chain, then once I mastered that single crochet stitch, then double, then the magic potholder, then scarves, now I'm finally branching out and learning to read patterns. I can create off an example much better than a pattern but I'm trying.

i still have issues I have to go to her house to figure out! But I love it

I knit and crochet. More knitting as of late, but a bit of both. I use crochet for blankets, dishcloths, hats, mittens, scarves. I knit dishcloths, sweaters, hats, bags, etc. I have a bunch of knitting in the works, and finished a crochet afghan a few weeks back. These hobbies are the main reason I am not on the board much anymore I am knitting, shopping for the best deal on yarn, or looking at patterns instead .

To Halfgreekmom: check ebay to see what similar items sell for. I'm usually sadden to see how little people will pay for a handmade baby blanket. But you never know.

Right now I'm finishing my last granny square (the last of 40) to make two blankets for my brother and his wife who are expecting twins. I've never made a granny square blanket, and I'm trying to decide the best way to attach the squares to each other. Any expert crocheters out there with thoughts?

Happy crocheting to all!
I would just slip stitch them together back when I remembered how to make a granny square blanket that is what I did.

I crochet. I learned the very basics (squares!) when I was young, and just picked it up again a year or two ago. In the past year, I've learned how to crochet in the round, so I could make hats for my little boy. He's got a larger-than-average head, from his father's side of the family, so this was about the only way I could find winter hats that fit him.

So far I've made two scarves and three hats, with plans for a few more hats & scarves. Other than hats, right now I'm planning some washcloths and other things from some Sugar & Cream cotton, and I won 7 skeins of purple yarn on Ebay, so I need to find enough of a complimentary color to make an afghan with it. It's very purple, and the brand isn't carried locally, so it could be an interesting search.

I love to crochet...mostly in the winter. It's nice to be crocheting an afgan on your lap when it's chilly outside. My mom used to crochet a lot and I remember watching her as a kid and being amazed that yarn could magically (it seemed to me) be turned in a warm blanket. I mostly crochet afgans now but when my girls were younger I made a lot of hats because they have big heads and the kid-size hats were too small and the adult-size hats were too big.

You too?

My DS takes after his father's side of the family. His head measurement is consistently 95+ percentile at his pediatrician visits. We had some newborn hats that he outgrew before he was a month old. That's why I learned how to crochet hats last fall, because I couldn't find anything decent that would fit him. I don't know what I'll do this summer. I don't think a crocheted sun hat would work too well in our heat.
