Vegansmom--Yes, I made one in high schools, of course that was years ago but we took a white t shirt tied it in rubber bands and let it soak in differnt color cloth dye, you can buy the dye at walmart in the laundry detergent section

MissyinMN--My dd's girl scouts did a really kind of neat idea. They took white tshirts and took a ruler and put the end on the shirt and twisted it in a circle then took spray paint and sprayed the shirts. Untwisted it and twisted in a different spot and sprayed with a different color. It was tye dyed.

Persephone--Check the craft area at your local Walmart. You can find kits to tye-dye.

Lorie--Michael's has several kits for tye-dye. The kids include "soda ash" a pre-soak you need to keep the colors fresh. You can even buy extra refill colors if you know you'll need more.

CarolinaGirl--I just got back from Walmart where I bought red and blue dye to make shirts for my family for the 4th. Great minds think alike. My kit includes everything but the shirts and it cost $9.97, I think. Looks like there will be lots of tye dyed shirts for the 4th!

Hectrov--Kim also has directions posted on the site.

perfect4ofus--an alternative to multi colored shirts is to take a solid dark colored shirt and twist different spots just like tie dye except put bleach on the shirt. You end up with a two toned and white shirt. It looks neat. Don't make the mistake I made when I was a teenager and put two circles on your chest! I won't make that mistake again!!! lol ...and that shirt was so cool looking too! I just couldn't bring myself to wear it.
