Ok so I got this bright idea that I am going to make my dd a quilt for her bed instead of buying one. Hoping that it being 2 sided that she will grow with it. Right now she Love Disney princesses and I was going to do that theme on one side and the other just a floral pattern theme. So here are my questions
I am planning on making it 72 x 86 so it will be good for twin/full size. Growing with her size. I think it would be a nice keepsake for her later.
Ok I have never made a quit I am getting in to deep for a first timer? I have made a few things. No clothes but have make pillows, hemmed clothes, curtains, and things like that. I think I can do it; it is all going to be sq, rectangle pc’s. NO odd shapes. I want it to sort of look like this quilt. Disney Princesses Patchwork Quilt, Twin/Full - Wal-Mart I like the look of this quit that it is off set some places (is this harder to do?) I have some idea on how to quilt My MIL does it but I don't want her help really we don't get along well. Since I want it to be 2 sided what would be the best way to do the batting? This is the part of a lot of questions about putting it together in the end. I have see the sqs put together and all that I use to help a lady at work with her pinning if all her 4 in sq's and then rows. Any and all input would be great. I won't be starting this till Late July since we are in 2 out of state wedding in July so it is going to be a very busy month. TIA

I would suggest getting some books from the library about quilting to give you both ideas and basic instruction. I have found in trying to make double sided quilts the tricky part comes in matching up the seams from both sides and making the quiliting look good on both sides. It is easier if you can use a panel or solid piece of fabric on one side, but that may not be what you want in double sided quilt. My other suggestion is to use the batting that you can iron to your pieced sides instead of using pins to hold the pieces together for quilting. (I buy this at JoAnn's with a coupon!) This batting has a "glue", somewhat like a lite heat-n-bond, that holds everything together while you quilt, then washes out when you wash the quilt. (I am assuming you are qoing to quilt by machine.) This batting is a litte more expensive but saves me a LOT of frustration and has held up fine in the quilts I have made my kids. Hope that helped some and you have fun making your quilt!

I took a class a few years ago - it was $60, it was 6 classes 4 hrs each. I could help you if we were local but it isn't something I could coach you through online.
