I know that this is probably totally goofy of me. But is there anyway to keep garden snakes out of my yard???? I have found two of them and they are freaking me out. I absolutely hate snakes. The boys havent seen them yet, but they will. I just dont want them to get bite by one because they pick up a toy or something and unknowingly scare the snake and it bites them. They know better than to touch one.

Sorry - I know nothing about snakes really. I know they are there, but just as they try to avoid people....I try to avoid them

I did find this info on the net... Gitting Rid of Snakes that looked like it may be helpful. I know real life experiences are much more helpful sometimes...but I have none .

Good Luck!

eeeeekkkkk. I hate them too. Thank goodness I haven't seen one in a while, that would be the end of my garden visits. I would think if you just made a lot of noise on your way out there. Take a metal pie pan and a spoon, anything so they hear you and leave. yuck!

have you figured out what kind they are. If they are just the good ole garter snakes, they aren't poisonous. I have them in my yard and u will probabbly only see them when they are looking for water.

Find out what type of snakes they are -- garter snakes (usually what you will find in your garden) are harmless and actually help keep your pest population down. Yes they do give you a bit of a fright when you run into one (I'm a screamer myself!) but from my experience they attempt to avoid you just as much as you're trying to avoid them!

Living in AZ, we're in rattler country, so we have to devise ways. Have you considered a low wall around your garden? That's what they do here.

And some swear by those large fake owls you buy at Lowes or Home Depot. We get real ones on our cactus and actually saw one grab a rattler that had come up our sidewalk.
