I am sorry bit I am laughing!!! Picturing you out in your backyard Trudy finding out what has happened! Never have had chipmunk problems here. So sorry about your plants. Maybe you need to camp out behind & bush & get them with a little pellet gun or something-don't know. Good Luck!!!

I had squirrels do that to my tulips. I would go to a gardening site and see what they don't like to eat.

I know how you feel though. I planted 2 rows of phlox in my garden and my neighbors cat peed all over it and they all died...it was quite a feat that I planted at all because I am pregnant...so I am frustrated. We also had our senile dog dig up most of our backyard....no reason why...we think she was eating all of the grass and some dirt

I read a few tips ranging from limiting their food supply, spray pepper spray on your plants (won't keep them from bulbs though) and setting rat traps with peanut butter or fruit. I also saw this idea....
"The swimming pool is a five gallon bucket half full of water with the surface covered in sunflower seeds (they float). There is a diving board that is a 1 by 6 board that has some seeds sprinkled on it. The chipmunk eats the seeds on the board gets to the end and dives into the sunflower seed. Unfortunately he can't swim. I don't mind the holes in the flower beds as much as the tunnels dug around my foundation and under my concrete walks."

The guy said he got as many as 8 in a day.

I think they are soooo cute but I also had some eat up $150 worth of bulbs we planted our first year in this house so I know how you feel.

I'm not sure I could be involved with killing them - but if someone else did I know I would not miss the little buggers

Funny thing is chipmunks are one of my favorite.....I mean really...how cute...I just had NO IDEA they did this!!!!!!!!

We have pine trees(that I hate)that line our drivway....and in 6 years living here I've seen 1....so I didn't even know about the potential of a problem???????

I had a ground hog under my shed one year(it even had babies....it was really cute)but that's it......

we mainly get deer.Nothing has ever ate any of my other plants!?!?!?!

Crazy little buggers must be in the neighborhood somewhere though!!!

This isn't going to be helpful but my husband was given a package of like 200 tulpi bulbs about two years ago. At the time we didn't have a yard so I gave them to my mother who planted them all around her home. The deer dug each and every single one of them up! Actually they missed one and her dog dug that one up! Dang deer.

Chicken Wire.... I know it sounds crazy.. I went to a pest class one time for the farm and they had a ladies class. Tractor supply, farm and country sell it by the roll. Usually 10-12 foot. You can buy it in smaller quantities, but basically you wrap the roots of the plant in the wire and then plant as usual. They won't dig or chew through it threrefor protecting your plants. It works for bulbs too, place a square on top of the bulb and nothing will dig down to it.

Also works for dogs that are diggers. My chocolate lab loved to dig in the same spot.. So we fixed her too.

Good luck to you... I still have the mole problem going on.. Currently there are 15 glass quart jars in my yard.. Good thing the neighbors are 1/4 mile away...
