Anyone here into refinishing furniture? I have been working on my kitchen/dining room table all week. It looks awesome if I do say so myself. I have stripped it, sanded it, stained it and an now on the polyurethane part. How many coat would you put on? I have done three already. Should I do more on the top? This is my first project and I want ot to last a long time. I don't want to hav ethe same thing happen before I redid it. (everything would stick to it) Any suggestions would be great!
TIA

It really depends on what type you are using and how you want the appearance to be. There should be a recommended application amount on the package you are using.

My DH and I used to do quite a bit of furniture stripping and refinishing. It's very rewarding.

For a table that will be used everyday, I would put an extra couple of coats on the top. My dining room table is an antique that my father refinished when he and my mother got married. He used gymnasium floor sealer on it's top! Thirty some odd years later it still looks good.

You can also get polyurethane for boats that resists water (think condensation from drinks, spills and food on your dining table), but I think a couple of extra coats of regular poly will do the trick.

Good Luck!
