I know it's going to be hard to describe. I want to make a garden stone, stepping stone with the kids handprints or footprints for x-mas gifts but I don't know what I need or if I can buy a kit. Has anyone made these before.

Thanks

I can't answer your direct question, but I've seen kits at JoAnns Fabric and I think at Target.

I think they would make wonderful gifts.

I often recommend this woman's book and website on here but I really like both! I know the book, You Grow Go has instructions and I think you can find it on her website You Grow Girlâ„¢ - Gardening for the People as well.

My neighbor's have done this with all of their grandchildren. It is pretty cute!

We made these the other week and here is how we did it:
Use aluminum cake pans for molds. They were 3 /$1 at the dollar store.
Purchase a bag of Sakrete or other instant concrete.
Pour some of the Sakrete into an old bucket or tub and, using an old wooden spoon, mix with water until the consistency looks like- well, concrete! I noticed that using a runnier mixture makes the finished stones look shinier when they dry.
Plop the concrete in the pan. Smooth it out using an old spatula or piece of cardboard.
Imbed decorations in the top. We smashed old china plates with a hammer and used the shards, but for younger children you could use seashells, marbles, glass globs, sea glass, or even little plastic toys.
Let dry- takes about 2 days.
Pop out of the mold and they are ready to use!

We've made them in the past and used the light weight clear plastic saucers that you buy to put under pots of plants to catch water.
Another idea - take a penny that has the year each child was born and place it in the concrete. Just don't push it in too far!
