The table looks gorgeous! Watch out though...refinishing old pieces is an addiction! I go to auctions now looking for things to refinish!

My husband had a great find last spring. He went to an auction and came home with a weird looking armoire that was painted white. (He only paid $2 for it) I decided to strip it and maybe repaint it. Well, when I got the 5 layers of paint off of it (there was white, pink, white, gold, and green layers of paint), it was solid mahogany underneath.

Needless to say, I stripped all the paint off (which was a pain) and stained it a dark color and it turned out gorgeous!

Now, I keep looking for more projects like that. There is something so satisfying about restoring something old to a new shine, isn't there? It looks great!

It is pretty easy task just time consuming. The worst part is the sanding it down.
1. first go to the store and by furniture stripper, the stain color you want, polyurethane,
sand paper, steel wool, those foam paint brushes to 1 or 2 apply the stripper, another 1 or 2 to apply the stain and some for the poly.
2. strip all the finish and stain off of table
3. sand down to the wood or as far down as you want
4. Once you have it down to how you want it too look then put on the stain, followint the directions on the can
5. after it dries and you are satisfied withthe color add a coat of poly let dry several hours, lightly sand over poly and apply another coat.

I put 4 coats of poly on the top of my table and just 3 on the legs and sides as the top is what gets used the most.
I wish I had before pics so that you could see what it looked like before.
But I am extremely happy with how it turned out.

Did you use oil base or water based poly? I have been disappointed in how well water based holds up, but I've never done a table, either. Also, what kind of brush did you use to apply the poly?

I forgot to mention, that table is beautiful!!! You did a great job on it, and I've been putting off the same sort of project. Was yours horribly peeling and scratched? Mine sure is
