I am growing all of my veggies in containers because the area I had dug up in my yard for it had like colonies of ants. So, I decided to grow them in containers. Anyone else doing this?

I don't container garden though I have done it in the past but I always recommend this website You Grow Girlâ„¢ - Gardening for the People -- this woman is the queen of container gardening. She also has a book by the same name that I use for my regular gardening.

If you want to go back to the noncontainer garden, try this: To get rid of ants naturally, try putting down orange peel in your garden. It won't hurt the plants, but the ants will go away. (Also works on sidewalks, etc where they like to pop up.)

My yard was so full of red ants that I decided instead of killing them with poisins that may leach into our foods, I would container garden. I started very late-(End of May/June) and mine are organic, so the veggies aren't very large but they are growing. I have mostly peppers, hot peppers of varous kinds, and banana peppers, some tomatoes about 6 or 7 of them, basil, pole beans, and cucumbers that have flowered but not produced yet. The tomatoes and peppers though have produced a few but are really getting started now. So, I'm gonna have a late crop but they are doing well, they are green and beautiful and I love going out onto my porch-(some are now on the ground on bricks etc. because they've grown so much I'm running out of room). When I'm out there tending to them or repotting them because they've grown again, I am at peace and I feel connected to my recently deceased best friend. We were starting our gardens together, his in ground and mine in pots. He never got to see his garden produce. But, I feel a great connection when I'm doing it. Thanks for the website.

Astine, I think next year I'm gonna do the containers too, it just makes my porch look so nice and I won't have to worry about those red ant colonies either.
