HELP- I cannot figure this one out. My towels (mainly) come out of the wash smelling weird, its not a mildew smell but like a "metal" smell. Hard to explain but I have a daycare and one of my DCK's clothes smells this way too. I asked them about it and they said that it just happens sometimes. Even in hot water wash this smell just will not go away. I have bought new ones and it afflicts these too. I bleach but its still there. I have a skin prob so bleaching isnt good for me. The only thing I can figure out is that possibly the towels are wet and maybe sit too long before washing. My family tends to use hand towels once and then throw in the dirty clothes. I wash like 3-5 times a week. But this is just buggin me!
HAVE you had this issue??? What should I do? I was thinking I could get a "hand towel soaking bucket" so that while they are waiting to get washed they will be soaking... I JUST dont know.... suggestions plz? Thanks have a good day.

I know what you are talking about I hate that smell. I don't think it has to do with them sitting too long. I would just use fabric softner and dryer sheets both. Good luck it might have to do with your washer.

Well my washer is a HE type front loader- but it seemed to only happen this HOT season. I use Downy and bounce sheets- this smell will stay on my face or hands after drying off too... I feel like switching to paper towels just to feel like I am using a "good" towel! YUCK it gives me a headache! UGH

Put 1 cup of vinegar in with your wash.

I have the same issue (and just bought NEW towels again) - this is exactly what my SIL told me to do. It takes that smell out, and the vinegar smell goes away by the time they are out of the dryer.

Yep use the vinegar. I've gone back to adding vinegar to my wash; it REALLY helps. I stopped a while ago b'c I ran out of vinegar and kept forgetting to get it at the store. LOL I don't use a full cup though. I toss in probably 1/2 c or so. I don't have to use fabric softener in my wash either. I can't smell the vinegar when I pull the clean clothes out. They dont' have a smell at all. It's clean, not scented like mountain flowers or spring showers, but still clean.

The vinegar really works! I put about one cup of white vinegar in a full load of laundry. I use it doing my towels, sheets, and my husbands work clothes. The vinegar smell rinses out and the clothes come out smelling clean.

OK- Im going to try it- I hate vinegar (I think because my mom useda put it on my sunburns) I usually wont use it- the smell just kills me! but maybe I can put it in the bleach compartment of my wash and it will mix in and then the softner will kick in after that/ or sheets in the dryer. Thanks for the HELP- Im just glad its not my housekeeping abilities.

You can't smell the vinegar on anything you wash after it dries...so yeah, I'd give that a try.
