I'm living in "Sick Bay" right now. Dd had a bad cold last week and now she's passed it on to me. I'd like to prevent my dh or anyone else from catching it. What do I need to sanitize around my house?

I know I need to wipe down the light switches, mouse, keyboard, telephones, and doorknobs. I also need to throw my toothbrush away when I get healthy. What am I forgetting?

I wash sheets, pillow cases and pillows and blankets. I add just a little bleach to kill all the germs in the sheets. Wash the floors with vinegar, wipe off counter tops with bleach water and only use towels once. Keeping the damp towels and reusing them houses more germs same with wash rags. Use paper towels for hand washing also. Wash hands often. Spray down toys with lysol. You can sanitize your tooth brushes in the dish washer too. It kills the bacteria. That is some I can think of off the top of my head. I just came down with a cold this morning, it is miserable.

i throw my ds's favorite blanket that he carries everywhere with him into the wash and through the dryer, same with any stuffed animals they have especially favored i toss those into the dryer on high heat. i also wash everything they tough frequently and make sure that used up kleenex's aren't left laying around, toss those right away, outside garbage is best for those, since they ahve tons of booger germs on them.

I saw a show on Oparh recently (it was a repeat from a few years ago) anyway,
This man was saying you need to wash your bedsheets in the hotest water possible to kill the "bed bugs"- so thinking you may want to wash any towels, sheets, pjs in very hot water.

Thanks for the advice, ladies. I've been cleaning and sanitizing most of the day.

I do daycare in my house and I sanitize with a bleach/water solution as often as I can. I usually spray everything down at night once the kids have left.

A book I read last week about making homemade cleaners and stuff (Supermarker Super Products) said you can use alcohol and water as a cheap disinfectant as well. Use 1 part alcohol, 5 parts water in a spray bottle. I am not a bleach person, so I am really hoping this works.
