Do you have them in one general place or do each of your kids have them in their own rooms?

My kids each have a few things in their rooms in their desks...stapler, pencils, pens...the basics. I also have the basics at my desk area in the kitchen.

I have accumulated a lot of extra supplies, colored pencils, markers, crayons...just a LOT! So I bought a bunch of clear bins, and I started sorting them out, throwing away broken and used up items and corraling everything else in individual bins. So far so good! I think I'll use my label maker to label the bins and then just keep them in the office closet or in my craft room where the kids can find what they want easily.

I have a closet and another cabinet set aside for "school" items. I have them sorted in clear plastic containers with lids and labeled on outside. They also each have a crayon/colored pencil holder box on the kitchen counter that they use everyday, but to get into the cabinets they need my permission (they are young).

I have one of those standing on wheels 3 drawer carts that I keep in a corner of my eat in kitchen area. When my kids were smaller, it was filled with playdough, markers, construction paper, stamps and pads, etc. We still have some of that stuff, but much of the "little kid" stuff is gone, so now I keep extra school supplies in there. So if they run out of paper or need something they know to go there and get it. HTH
