I am in need of finding a very inexpensive, very fun idea for my DD's 5th grade Halloween party at school. I am in charge of the activity, and really REALLY don't want to embarrass my DD by doing something lame.

Thing is I have been given $25 and there are 25 kids in the class so we are stressing inexpensive.

The party treats are being provided by the PTO, so I just need a craft, game, or other activity.

Any help would be appreciated ~

I am going through the same thing right now- only with a preschool class- so I do feel your pain- sending hugs your way!

I vaguely remember my 5th grade party and remembered that there was something cool that the parents did for us. A parent read a story while our eyes were closed (I think we all had blindfolds) and we had to feel different items (like peeled grapes for eyeballs, spaghetti for worms, a frozen hand-of course water frozen in a glove and so on). I believe that there is a few websites that give a story to read and what you should do for the items to feel. I don't remember for sure if this was the year we did the "mummy wrap"- but that may seem immature with some of the kids nowadays. I remeber doing a lot of paper activities throughout my school years and thought that they were fun- like word searches, word scrambles, crossword puzzles (there is a lot of websites that offer free activity pages for older kids for halloween- I stumbled on alot of them looking for something a preschooler could do)- you should be able to print of one and be able to copy them off at the school.

HTH and good luck!

My DD also suggested the mummy wrap, but they did that last year so I was just trying to find something new.

I had thought of the eyeball, hand idea ~ but didn't know there was a story to go with it.
That would be fun. I will have to search for it.

Thanks

Check out Familyfun.com. They have a bunch of games and crafts for Halloween - from the simple to the complex!

This is where we got our costume idea for this year - all of the kids are going to be different colored Legos

Heres some cute cheap ideas-
FamilyFun: Halloween Recipes: Spider Pops Halloween Treat - and More Family Fun

FamilyFun: Yarn Painting - and More Family Fun
This one could be for Thanksgiving too if you have to come up with a craft for that too, or you could perhaps make them into the shape of a pumpkin. Very age appropriate for 5th graders.
Both of these you could probably do for close to $1. a piece
