I have a medicine cabinet in dh and my master bath that I go through once a year. I throw away (safely) and meds expired, consolidate meds that two boxes were opened at the same time, and then go shopping and replace what we need. We have Lots of meds. I have a relief for every major symptom! From laxative (yes I eat my fiber), to pepto for dh (he has a very sensitive stomach and several times a month it acts up) to gas pills (I get these debilitating gas attacks every so often - menopause is so wonderful - that have absolutely no warning. Without these things I wouldn't be able to function. I don't take too many cold meds since they don't work for me, except the stuff that thins mucus in your chest - I get so congested without this stuff I'm literally not able to speak clearly for a few weeks when I get a bad cold. And nasal spray. Yes they say not to use it! But if you are so stuffed up that you cannot breathe at ALL - I'm not talking rebound - I'm talking having bad sinuses - so I do use it sparingly when I have a cold. Dh has allergies and uses different meds at different times of the year so we have all that. Then of course, Motrin, Tylenol, - get these head banger sinus headaches sometimes for days and I have to alternate the two. Ugh! Anyway, I clear this one out once a year.
Then in the kitchen I have more of the first-aid stuff and ds's meds (believe it or not he doesn't get much) I'll go through this twice a year - at the end of the school year to prepare for summer: sunscreen, bandaids, allergy meds (ds and I are very sensitive to bug bites) etc. and then once at the beginning of the school year - hand sanitizer (which we don't use much anymore) and children's Motrin, etc.
