It seems like everyone's holiday cards get fancier and fancier every year. I'm always trying to think of unique poses that we could do for a family photo, or ways to make my cards more interesting. What ideas have you done in the past, or seen on your friends' cards?

How do you display the cards that you receive?

I love making my own cards, but with the cost of postage being so high now, this year I am going to try to build a website or if I am short on time at least do some type of greeting/holiday letter by email. I will still need to mail a few cards to the people who do not use computers (cutting my mailing list to about 10 or so people down from 80+ cards that I usually mail). I am excited to start this project and see what kind of cool options I can do- I will definitly teach the kids a Christmas song and upload a video of them singing and include a variety of pictures of the kids and our new house too.

I'm trying to decide between a picture of all of us or a picture of just the kids. With the baby being so little I'm attempting to wait until he is a bit older so, maybe, he can sit up on his own. We'll see.

As for displaying our received cards ... I got this nifty chain with hooks on it from Pier 1 a couple of years ago - so I just use that. Of course with our move this year it still hasn't turned up. If I don't find it I will just do it myself type job with one going across the empty wall in the dining area. The Pier 1 one was getting a little small anyway.

I love when people send them with photos of the whole family ~ not just the kids ~ that way we can remember who the kids belong to! We keep those ones on the fridge all year.

Funny you asked this question. I just ordered ours this morning! I got them from http://www.vistaprint.com/vp/holiday...?xnav=TsrPrice because they have tons of design templates, their prices were really good, their shipping reasonable and I could do the photo collage that I wanted to do.

In our family, we take the photos on Canadian thanksgiving (two weeks back) at a pumpkin farm. Another family we knows all wears santa hats in theirs. Another family dress up in their winter coats, hats, mitts etc and take theirs outside. I can hardly wait to see how they turn out!

Here's another link for photo cards that are great prices too. Wal-Mart Digital Photo Center:Store:Cards

I used this for my wedding pictures to send out Announcements and Thank You's. It was fast and I had it shipped for free to my local walmart after uploading my favorite scanned pictures and editing and cropping them. It was nice because it was personalized with our names and wedding date.

They have great prices on picture postcards too and you can save big on postage that way!

Hope it helps.

My favorites are the ones with kids and Christmas lights. I did cards this year with te kids pictures on it and they are both on their elbows looking at a tangle of white mini lights. The lights are glowing and it lights up their faces and inside I had printed "Celebrate the magic of the Season". I ordered 20 of them from vista print for $12 and I had gotten 30 of them free last year from my mom (Home shopping network sent her a bunch of coupons for ordering something else so I used them).

I highly reccommend vista print!
