Any good tips ??
We have 3 Cats - 2 boxes - I use Multicat Litter and I Sprinkle it with Baking soda - every Scooping day.
I know I should scoop / change regularly , We do try and stay on top of it....
But sometimes in between they really smell!! Not to mention if we aren't home for a couple days and Can't do anything
I found this tip this morning from Google-
I may try this tonight if I have tea.
Anti-odor kitty litter. Place the contents of used, but dried out tea bags into your cat's kitty litter. The antibacterial features of the tea "neutralize odor
I love my cats - But as Usual with going two to three- the mess has Multiplied by 10!!

I scoop as often as possible and then spray Febreeze Odor Eliminator spray to make the icky smell go away. As much as I love our kitty, she makes quite the mess. I like the Tidy Cat crystal litter, as it doesn't smell AT ALL, but it seems weird to me to have a litter where you only remove the solids and not the liquid waste. I know the crystals trap it in and all, but it's just odd to me. So we really dont' go that route. I've tried other brands of litter with crystals in it, but they all sucked terribly and were worse than just using standard Arm & Hammer Baking Soda litter. So I went back to that. I'm about to hang 300 air fresheners all around the litter box! LOL

Should be scooped daily but I know it's easy to fall behind. You should also have one more box than you do cats, so add another box.

I will have to try the crystal litter! I am one that Hates clumping litter - I have never Used it.
That must be part of the problem with the oder- I know , But I Like non clumping.
I buy some type of multi cat litter right now. Never a cheap brand - Usually Tidy cat.
So If I have 3 cats I should Have 4 boxes?? Wow!
I was thinking maybe 3 . But I am not an expert- so I don't know the rule of thumb.
How can an animal that sleeps away most of the day , have so many Bathroom issues
I do love cats - I never have been a Day without one in my whole life...
Its Just with The more kids I Aquire- the harder all the work seems!

I don't know if it depends on the cat or what but we use Tidy Cat. I love it, it clumps great, no odor issues. I scoop daily, sometimes more than once. I also, every few months, empty the entire box, scrub it entirely, dry it and put in completely fresh litter. If it's smelling like cat urine, maybe you have some drips somewhere? On the side or underneath?

Oh and I agree that with 3 cats, you should have at least 4 boxes. We had 4 boxes when we had two cats. We're down to one cat and she has two boxes, right next to each other.

We have 4 cats - 6 boxes. 5 are in the basement & one is in my office on the main floor. Never fails - whenever I go in there to use the PC, Peabody comes in & drops a stinker.

We had two cats, until our 19 year old one passed a few months ago. She was having trouble going potty in that she would stand in the box, but her bottom would hang over the edge while she went! lol. It was so pathetic to see (and smell!), poor thing.
A few months of that, and we learned to clean the box and surrounding area every day, and mix baking soda with the litter.
I also found that white vinegar helps with the odor. I sometimes just left a bowl of vinegar out near the box, or I sprayed diluted vinegar around it. Vinegar helps with the ammonia smell.
Sad to say, after she passed, the house smelled better!

Hmm.. I'm not sure.
I have one cat; we've had her for 6 years now and her litter box has never stunk. I know this sounds nasty, but there have been times that I have probably gone a month without changing it because I forget because it doesn't stink. (And it's right in our downstairs bathroom! I'll SEE that it needs to be cleaned and verbally abuse myself for letting it go so long! lol!)
We use Tidy Cat litter - a clumping kind that is flushable too, which is nice. I try to scoop it at least once per week, though in the spring/summer/fall, she doesn't use it much as she is outside a lot. I feed her the cheapy Special Kitty (WalMart brand) dry cat food, because all the others we have tried make her puke. Other than that, I have no idea why she doesn't stink. I'll just be glad she doesn't.
