I learned to sew from someone when I was young. But, there are alot of books to learn from. And I think you may be able to find some videos/DVD's on it as well. It depends what works for you. Good luck!

I learn better by doing something so I paid for private lessons ($10 an hour) once a week for 2 hrs I had lessons. We went over the basics, and I made a Halloween costume for my grandson. She said if I ever need any help to call her, she also gave me an excellent beginners sewing book - I would tell you the name but its out in my car. PM me if you want the name and I will tell you.

I read the manual that came with my sewing machine, and then I bought a book or two and just read them and started sewing. Some trial and error was involved, but it won't take you long to get the hang of it. I would start out with something simple like some plain curtains or a pillowcase... something simple. Then I would start with one of those patterns that say "one hour' sewing or something like that. They have a rack of them at our walmart.
