I have a super organized home, but I really need tips on how to keep my car clean & organized! Some women seem to have such clean cars... and then there is me!

I have to admit, it's a bit of a battle for me. I'm constantly reminding the kids to take in what they bring out!

For me, I have two baskets on the floor my front seat passender seat. They're easy to keep clean, look nice and are durable. I'm using woven nylon baskets from The Container Store. When I bought them, you could buy two in a set - one bigger and one smaller.

The Container Store > Shop Plastic > Woven Nylon Basket

In the bigger one, I keep magazines, catalogs and other things that I use to entertain myself during swim practices. I also have some snacks in there for the kids in case we need them, some bottled water, extra goggles etc

In the smaller basket I corral coupons, my price book, kleenex, pens/pencils and smaller items.

I have a station wagon and I like the baskets because everything is at hand, but I can move the entire basket to the tailgate if I have a passenger in my front seat. My emergency items, first aid kit and all that fit underneath in my tailgate, so I don't have to worry about where to put that stuff.

Everybody is different and keeps different things in their car. I guess just think about what you need in the car, how you want to keep it organized and go from there.

Good luck!

My rule is, if you bring it in, you have to bring it out! I am looking at getting an over the seat organizer to keep some of the kids stuff in, but think if if I did that, they might be tempted to leave more stuff in there.

The only things that stay in the car are: First aid kit and wind up flash light (they fit right into the center console), straws and napkins- in the glove box, change and a pen in the slots inside my console, candy in the little slot in front of the shifter, a hair band on the left side of the steering wheel (there is a little pocket holder) and an umbrella in my door. Oh and a plastic Target bag for trash hanging from the glove box.
I am a bit of a neat freak fanatic when it comes to my car statying clean.

Mine's spotless - but only for the few hours between when I scrub it clean and when DH gets in it and goes to work. Then it has kleenexes and napkins and cups and wrappers and all sorts of garbage throughout. It's really grody. I try to keep a bag hanging from the glovebox for trash. There is a small clear plastic bag in the back for random toys, DS's things that get left in the car. Other than that I try to just keep it free of trash. When I take stuff with me to go out with DS or as a family, everything stays corralled in the bag I take, and comes back in with me.

I love the idea of baskets. I will have to get them since my DH hates when it is time to take my car since I have so much stuff on the front seat.

I have a mini van and I have a plastic grocery bag hang from one of the arm rests in the front seat so it is acessible to me and the kiddos in the 2nd row. We use this for trash and I can easily get rid of it. I keep the third row up even though we don't use it so I can not keep as much stuff in the car. In the way back compartment, I have a bag of change of clothes and extra warm clothes (we live in New england), sleeping bag, box with extra sand/salt/window washer cleaner/snow brushes/first aid kit. I also have snacks and bottled water.

Thanks - I too have a trash bag in the SAME place 2littleonesmommy. I have stuff in the back just like you too! I like Oregano's idea of baskets - today I found two folding baskets that will work for that exactly!

Thanks... looking foward to more tips.

I love that basket idea. The problem with my truck is there isn't a lot of extra storage space available with the carseat too. But I could still do a basket in the front seat.

I have to wait until dh gets his truck fixed though because right now we are sharing and so its covered in coffee mugs, dirt, sticks, leaves, etc. Blah

I have a basket in the middle back seat (nissan sentra) for my DS toys and mostly BOOKS and I keep a snack bowl in there also. He puts things back in the basket when he's done. He's not the problem, I am. When I go on trips to my 'rents house I never empty my car out fully. This year though I took my car to the car wash and vaccummed it out and I am trying very hard to take in the house what I bring in the car. Worked so far. Hope it stays this way.
