I see a lot of women on her are involved with genealogy. I have a question. If you are interested in it, "Where do you start?" I guess you start with your parents and then grandparents but beyond that where do you go to find more information?

I started looking into ours when my oldest had to do a family tree for school.

I started by asking my grandparents as much as they knew (which was not a whole lot), what really helped was my mom has a family bible that had a few names my grandparents could not recall. Anyways I pretty much googled everyones name that came up (I was able to find a lot of our stuff through this way- it helps if you don't have very common names!). I actually was able to stumble across a few things- one of them was the county my grandparents are from (which is a "small" county in a rural area) has a genealogy website- I found oddles of info and there is a forum there where people can help you out if you have a question. As for tracing my DH's side- that was hard- we quite after his grandparents- they were from the city and in order to get any info you had to go to their courthouses and stuff (which I was not about to do!).

Lucky for me my mothers side has an unusual last name and her great aunt started tracking it back in the 50's and had everything written down. We can go back past the Revolutionary War.
My fathers side I also google and use ancestry.com and genealogy.com I think you have to pay for both now but they used to be free.
If you know the county which your grandparents were from you can obtain birth certificates which should have their parents names on and location.
Also some of the websites allow you to do a basic search and I have already started threads to see if there is anyone out there that may be familiar. You just never know.

Since I am an organizer, I would start with putting what information you have, either from memory or from a family bible or such into a computer program (I use Personal Ancestry File - it's free). Then you can start searching online. You can download "links" of people in your family line and connect them in your program once you've found them.

Familysearch.org is a really great website for researching your genealogy. I've also used ancestry.com.

Good luck! It's addicting.
