good luck to you, removing wall paper is hard enough let alone having paint over top of it. I feel sorry for whomever bought my mil and fil old house as they did that in ALL 4 of the upstairs bedroom before they sold their house

Oh dear! You'll have to let us know when you finish. I'm curious how long it will take.

I removed the painted over wallpaper in dd's room last summer. I think her room had two coats of paint and 4 layers of wallpaper. A neighbor told me to score the wallpaper with a paper tiger, then coat with fabric softener mixed with water. That made it much easier to remove where the walls had been primed before applying the wallpaper.

Most of her room was just papered over bare lathe and plaster and was really tough to get off. But it did look nice after it was finished.

Hope it turns out to be a much easier project than you expect!

When we moved into this house, we had five rooms of wallpaper to remove. We tried the steamer and the spray on stuff with the "tiger" that scores it first. The steamer did not work that well for us. It was very tedious, and took us two years of weekends and evenings. We lost count of how many layers of paper were in some rooms! We also repainted over stenciling that went down the entire length of the hallway, as well as ceilings, paneling, and brick. It was a lot of work, but worth it.

My advice: Take "Before and After" pictures. I have a "Home Improvement" photo album with all of the projects we've done on this place, inside and out. Not only does it make us feel great to look at the results, but I'm told that it could help sell the house, should we ever have potential buyers look at it!

I've never taken off wallpaper with paint over it but when I remove wallpaper, I pull the top printed layer off, leaving the paper and the glue. Spray it down in sections with Windex and it peels right off. Hope that helps.

Thanks for the tips! I will try the fabric softener, and slicing it a bit... I did try the steamer and that did not work.

thanks for reminding me to take before pics! lol that is a GREAT idea, ezpecially when it comes to selling the house.

So far I have probably gotten off 1 square foot, in about 2 hours...omgosh, words cannot describe it lol

Bananabellesmom-
Stupid question, but are you letting the steamer heat up so the steam shoots out. I didn't when I used one at first. If the steam isn't coming out yet, its not hot enough yet, but when it does mine worked great. HTH Also, make sure the paper is completely saturated before you go to the next spot.
