What type of line do you use?

At my old house, I use to have the folding type that you would spin around. I didn't line dry often and hated having that thing in the middle of the yard. Also when we moved we could dig it up and take it with us and it was expensive. I just thought I would see what everyone else did.

I'm not a big fan of line drying but my mom has been bugging me about doing some of our clothing and I can see that there is a "green" as well as economical aspect of it that I should take advantage on.

I have clothes lines in laundry area (unfinished) of the basement. I have 3 heavy duty green lines on eye hooks. I hang a lot of clothing up.

I line dry outside, and use a polyester cord, which is ran between a tree and the only real chothesline end that happened to be in our backyard when we moved in.

Am I the only one who doesn't care for the smell of line-dried clothes?? I used to think they stank b/c the line was next to my parents' goats (which, if you've ever smelled a billy goat, PROBABLY did have something to do with it!), but I don't like the ones dried in my backyard here, either. Of course, we do have dogs that poop all over the yard. But I'm starting to think that it's just that line-dried smell that everybody else goes nuts over. And fabric softener has never done the trick, either. At least it goes away after a little while of being in the house...

I don't care for the smell either. And my clothes are always stiff and my sweaters have lint on them a lot of times. But I am line drying more to try to keep the energy bill down.

I just use hangers and hang them on the shower curtain pole and hang clothes over the towel racks. In the summer I don't think I will hang them outside because of my bad allergies. But we have a carport that was closed in with windows and it is really hot in there in the summer, maybe I will hang a clothes line in there and hang clothes in the carport area.

I've got just three straight lines across in rows. I dry more indoors than outside, though.

In my apartments I always had a retractable line which I LOVED. I need to invest in one of those again for this house.
