My son who is turning 5 in May wants a "superman" party (surprise surprise )

Anyway, his birthday falls right in time for my dh to leave for Iraq so we decided to make it a big BASH (unfortunately). At the same time it will be fun to have all the kiddos there and the couples come out too. So I rented a pavillian at the local park and have thought up a few games to play for kids young and old (oldest being 7)

Here is my thought and you all tell me if I am crazy!

I want to do all the "old fashioned' type stuff: sack races, egg/spoon races, egg toss, etc. For the egg toss I was thinking I could decorate each of the eggs with a superman logo on the front and then maybe affix a cape to the back of it (kinda like a superhero cape). Cute idea right? Ok, so NOW how do I do this? How do I make the capes? How do I attach them? (hot glue)

My other idea, I want all the kids to have a superhero cape, to wear at the party and to take home.....do you know where I could find a pattern to make these? would it be super easy to do? (I am obviously hiring someone to do this!!)

and lastly, what other super hero game could I incorporate? I was thinking of doing a treasure hunt where the teams of people would go looking for clues and who ever solves the mystery wins.....so would that be enough? (sack races, egg and spoon race, kite flying, egg toss, treasure hunt, and moon bouncer)

Sounds like a fun party!

My daughter runs around with a blanket tied around her neck. That is her cape! She is a super reader

You could buy blue or red fabric and just cut it in strips wide enough to tie around them. I would search online to see if you could find a superman patch to iron on if you really wanted to be fancy

Do you have help with this thing? Sounds like you may need it. Let me think a bit. Also you might want to PM Jodie -- with her big Easter batch thing, she probably would have some pretty good ideas for handling large gatherings!

Sounds like fun!

If you are going to hire someone to make a cape, it's pretty simple and they probably wouldn't need a pattern. You could go with making a stencil and using fabric paint for an S logo or make one out of felt. I found this link that tells a little about how she made the superman cape Superman costume - Kaboose.com

As for the capes on the eggs, I would probably hot glue them, too, if it was me.

Your games sound like fun! I can't think of any to add.

Thanks Chicky Hip!

I tried looking it up on Ebay (capes, lot) and they didn't have any, so I may have to have these made...ugh
