I have discovered that I do not like furniture. There are peices that you need and then there are lots of extra to dust.

When I was pregnant with my oldest, I got rid of the coffee table. I used the excuse that it was not babyproof. It was a freebie and I didn't like it anyway!

I got rid of my dresser (also a freebie) and use a built in chest under the windows in our bedroom. It has 2 drawers under the chest. It was my idea and I love it. The wall has 2 small closets on either side of the chest. My husband still has a dresser but I've been trying to get rid of it.

We have no headboard/footboard on our bed. I like it that way...less to dust.

We ripped out the built in cabinets in the dining room. My husband has been trying to convince me to buy something to replace it for storage but I've already put everything away. He is offering me a peice of furniture but I keep declining. During this declutter, I threw away the flowers, candle and cake topper from our wedding It was liberating!! I have pictures, I don't need those dust collectors.

I've been trying to figure out a way to get rid of the tall dresser (another freebie) in my 2yo room after the post I read earlier today. I could anchor it but her room is so small, I'd like to do storage in the closet instead.

I'd gladly toss my husband's leather recliner but he won't let me

We will get rid of our entertainment center when we buy a flat screen tv. Woohoo! The stuff will get less dust in the closet.

We have fewer furniture than some people with a one bedroom apartment...I like it that way! Just my preference

How about you?

I don't like furniture either. We had two couches, one that was soooo ugly, a coffee table and two end tables in our living room. I got rid of the ugly couch and all three tables last year and it made such a difference. The room looks bigger and there is more room for two wild boys to play. I could do without a headboard, too, but those are here to stay probably forever or until I get new mattresses.

I hate to say it now... but I love furniture! Not having a lot of it, just certain pieces that I love (my sofa table, our headboard and footboard). We don't have a lot of furniture we don't love or need. But we do have too much it seems at times. Dh feels like we have a big house, so we should fill it. I'm still working on him.

I never thought about getting rid of some of the items you mentioned. I do appreciate built-ins and closets. Yet there are times when I really like a table. I figure if the item gets used enough it doesn't need to be dusted that often.

As for furniture other than for sitting, I really like wood - real wood. I appreciate the warmth, the grain, the color, etc. So the furniture I really love is the stuff that is handmade, clean lined, real wood stuff. I have a few pieces I'll never get rid of.

I wish that were true! I live on a dirt road across from a grain elevator. Everything needs dusted every day, though I don't do that, lol.

I have a woodstove and a long-haired dog (usually two dogs). Everything gets dusty

Like I said, it is my preference, I certainly don't think it is the only way!

I will add: The main reason for me not wanting "extra" furniture is because I like my space open and simple. The dusting part is secondary to me.

I love furniture. I just wish I had a bigger house. Dusting on the other hand is something I too have to do often. With 7 people, three dogs and a fields around us things get real dusty.

To me furniture is strictly functional. I don't really care what it looks like or anything. Most of ours we have gotten free or near free.

Me too! I didn't realize it until I was writing this post.
