My living room curtains are on a traverse rod. Do you have any ideas of how to make it look nicer? When the curtains are open, you see the white rod. I guess it is fine but think it could be a little softer. The room will be a sandstone color w/white trim. The curtains are burgandy. Thanks!

If you like the set up - I'd probably just get a wooden or metal rod that is meant to be seen. I don't use those white tranverse rods for window coverings that I might pull back, because I just don't want to see it. But that's me. Do you ever close the curtains? If you don't, and you don't want to invest in a new rod, you could cover the exposed rod like you can cover the chandelier chain/cord, with fabric that matches the curtain fabric or coordinates with it.

Dh and I made cornice boxes for our dining room years ago (now we have shutters). But it was fairly easy. He used plywood, a miter saw, and "L" brackets. I used recycled batting, inexpensive fabric and a staple gun. I also hot-glued some trim on the edges, but that's optional. I don't have any pictures, but this website explains the directions pretty much the way we did it.

Thanks for the suggestions!

I had a metal rod before I put up the traverse rod. I do close the curtains often and didn't like the metal rod for this window. We get a lot of afternoon sun. I also close them at night.

I like the cornice boxes but try to stay away from fabric. Maybe I could do one and paint it white.

For that Curtain And Window I would use a Double Metal Curtain Rod.

I would Put a Valance in the Top rod. this way you wouldn't see any rods.

I Have a Curtain and Valance in my DD's Room ,
The window is a Wide window , similar to yours.

We had to special order it to fit the space. I forget what size it is but it is an oddball size.

What type of valance do you think would look good on this wide space?

The fabric cornice boxes are easy to dust with a vacuum attachment. I have valances in my house, too, and it's a hassle to get up there and dust them. I take them off every spring and throw them in the wash, but that's a hassle, too. I like to make things easy! lol

The fabric cornice is a great idea! A friend of mine did them for her living room a few years back...she got a kit at Joann Etc and it was a type of foam, not wood and no sewing or anything to put the fabric on...it was really cool! I wonder if they still make those...
