I need some good inexpensive ideas for ways to organize my dd4 and dd8 bedrooms. they have a lot of little stuff (polypocket, barbie, pet shop, etc.), books, dolls and stuffed animals, dress up clothes, and art supplies.

Any ideas?

both of my kids have tackleboxes in their rooms for the small things. they also have those plastic baskets you get at dollar tree. seems to keep their things pretty organized.

I use all kinds of things...

I have an 'issue' with plastic bins. LOL I do use them, but they have to be stored out of sight, like in a closet. So we have some legos in plastic bins, GI Joes etc - but they are stored in the bedroom closets.

My sons are older, so stuffed animals are not around the house anymore, but when they were, I had a big willow basket just filled to the top with them (it could stay in the bedrooms since it wasn't a plastic bin LOL). Both my kids have these net tubes that I got at IKEA. They hang from the ceiling and have little holes to tuck things in...they don't use them for stuffed animals but they could be used for that - gets them off the floor, out of the way but you can still see them.

Here is a pic of the 3 shelf one...we have the longer ones with at least 6 shelves:

IKEA | Organizers | Children's small storage | MINIFĂ…NGST | Hanging storage/ 3 compartments

Both my kids have two bookcases in their rooms...a tall one and a short one. So they work great for all their books. I also use some fabric bins to store small items like decks of cards, box of marbles...stuff like that. They're contained but out of sight and the fabric covered bin looks nice on the shelf.

They also have shelves in their closets...so I use some plastic bins and fabric bins in there as well to corral things.

They each have desks, so all art/school type supplies are organized in the drawers of their desks. I don't use bins so much for that stuff, but some cups with colored pencils in them or markers. Those plastic trays keep things together in one place etc

I have two girls. The best solution for me was to get all the toys out of the bedrooms. I created a playroom in our basement. I use plastic shoe boxes and large plastic totes for toy storage.

I agree with getting the toys out of the bedrooms. My boys toys are in their closet on bookshelves for the most part. That way at night I can lock them up so they can't play instead of sleep at night. In the closet we have bookshelves along the bottom. I have the balls, rescue heros & other 'collections' of toys in tubs on the shelves. I have a shelf above the closet that my dad put up for me where their stuffed animals are.

A friend of mine has a shoe organizer hanging on the wall of her dd's closet to hold all her little 'beanie baby' type stuffed animals.

For the TINY things (magnetic letters, etc) we use plastic peanut butter jars with the screw on lids. The boys love to put it all away and tighten it up.

Storage solutions for my kids that I use are:

A net up in the corner of the room up by the ceiling for stuffed animals.
Bookcase.
Plastic totes and shoe boxes, their beds are high enough that we can put them under there.
A 3 drawer plastic organizer.
I will even get boxes from the grocery store with covers, they are free for the asking.
Wicker baskets.
They each have a 3/4 hook racks that they can put hats, beads, leis, award ribbons on.

I store my kids toys in see through plastic containers. It makes it easy for them to put things away. I bought them from the container store because they are modular, hold lots, and stack nicely. They have used the containers for almost 5 years and they are still going strong.

I would love to buy one of these....

you can get them at Walmart or online here Whitmor Kids' 12-Bin Organizer, Pastel Colors - Wal-Mart

I think it would be good for Polly Pockets and those type of things.
