Dilema! Me, The Commander (DH), Little Man (DS), and The Commanders Producer (MIL) are all iving in a two bedroom 860 sq ft apartment! So MIL has the smaller bedroom, and the little man, the commander and I are in the bigger bedroom which is 12x10. In our room we have our queen bed, little mans crib and changing table.

The living room, dining room, kitchen, and what they call a "sunroom" are all basically the same room. The lving room is 11x12, dining room 9x10, kitchen 9x7, and "sunroom" 8x8 which we have turned into an office.

I feel so cluttered and squished all the time.

Any advice on decluttering and organinzing when you dont have enough space??

Declutter the MIL just joking!! I think when you have limited space the best thing to do is simplify. Instead of trying to organize a lot of things maybe get rid of or put in storage things you don't use or things that aren't as important. Or, shelves are always good for organizing. if you have a nice sized wall that you could have shelves built in that would store a lot of things.

HTH! BTW, your little man is adorable!!!!

What are your problem areas? What is it that you're having problems with?

My first suggestion is always to PURGE. I'm betting if you're like most everyone else out there you could get by with half of what you have. I like to think about the families in foreign countries that have 10 people living in a one room house. They have NOTHING and survive. I'm sure I can do with out my purse collection or 10 pairs of shoes.

Another idea is to use the spaces down low. Make sure to use the area under the bed. You can use risers to prop up the bed if you want to get more underneath it. Use under the crib too, even at it's lowest level you should have room under it for stuff.

Also think high. Use the high shelves in closets for out of season stuff. Even if you can't reach it on an everyday basis.

When dd and I live in the loft over the cafe, the living area was all open, except for the bathroom. After about 3 years when she got to be older and wanted more privacy, i had walls built for the two bedrooms (not all the way to the celing but only 8 feet tall).

But the rest of the space was still open, so I invested in some multi wall-shelving units. These could be moved to different areas or used all together. It really keep the living area where all of the movies, tapes etc... were kept.

And in the office area I used tons of inexpensive filing cabinets. I pick them up at yard sales and thrift stores. I painted them in various colors and they looked so cute side by side, not to mention that they gave me tons of storage for everything.

In the kitchen I had pot racks over the bar area and several bakers rack side by side for cookbooks and pot/pans. I used crocks to hold cooking untensils.

I also used tons of wicker baskets with washable liners on shelves in the bathroom, and in other places around the loft.

The main thing is try to get stuff that can do double duty, Like a table to hold a lamp, with a table cloth throw over it that you can store stuff out of sight, under the table.

One GREAT thing I did was get nice baskets that fit 2 to a shelf,, and filled THEM with my clutter that was on the shelves *scrappin' stuff* It looked SOOOOO 'messy' with 'stuff' all over, but now it looks NEAT with the baskets,,, yet all my 'stuff' is still right where it was
