Everytime I have to do bath towels I never know if I should put liquid fabric softner in with my load. I like the smell, but I have also been told that f. softner is harsh on towels and breaks them down so they won't dry you as well.

So, should I skip it when I wash and just add a softner sheet to the dryer or skip it all together?

How do you wash your towels, with or without?

I dont use any fabric softener anymore, not liquid or the dryer sheets. My towels come out nice and fluffy anyway. And as much as I love the smell in the bottle, it rarely keeps on the towels so I just stopped all together.

i put one cup full of vinegar in the rinse and then when they dry they smell like they have been hanging outside and i find they soak up water better then having been in with softener or those sheets.

I read recently that fabric softener has been re-formulated to fix the problem with the towels not absorbing as well.

In my case, it is a non-issue since I rarely use fabric softener and never have a problem either way.

I don't use fabric softener/dryer sheets very often. I don't have a problem with static cling. I will throw a dryer sheet in if I am drying something with synthetic fibers. I don't use them with towels.

Recently 2bearsmom gave me the advice of putting in 1 cup of vinegar with the detergent when washing and I've been doing that and they smell great!

I have to laugh at myself because I never gave vinegar a thought and I use it in my other household cleaning!!!!!
Thanks for all the input! If there are anymore ideas, just post them.
