*shrug* It's always worked for me. I wouldn't pour peroxide on carpet but that's me. Probably depends on the carpet fibers, as to whether or not it will bleach or damage it.

Unfortunately, if the urine has soaked down into the padding...there may be no way to remove the odor.

Are you renting? If so...maybe request to have that part of the carpet replaced? Or maybe they'll pay to have it professional cleaned?

Geez, If I were to move into a place that had previous tenants I would rent a shampooer and do all carpets first thing. You never know what else is in them.

I would go to the landlord - that's what security deposits are supposed to cover, and if you left such a mess, trust me, you'd be charged. I would ask them to replace the carpet AND PAD (plus clean the floor underneath while the carpet is up). Ick!

and it is just the hydrogen peroxide that i can get from the dollar store right?
Just plain old hydrogen peroxide that is in the big brown bottle. I get it at walmart, 94 cents I think! I use it on the green carpet and the carpet is still green. Again, if youre using it on an expensive rug you should test it first but we havent had a problem with it. I use it on the hardwood floors too. With the carpet, it gets down to the pad and gets rid of the smell there too. The commercial cleaners for these problems dont get to the pad, in my experience anyway. Its gotten rid of urine, poo and vomit smells.

This is a good question. Sorry, I assumed you bought the townhouse. If youre renting - go to the landlord and have them take care of it. One would think it should be in move in condition if youre renting?
