We just moved into a new townhouse and the tenant before us had a very large red dog ( i know this because of all the hair i've found and the crap outside! lol) ... the landlord did not clean well (ok she didn't clean AT ALL..) and when you go upstairs on the landing is a HUGE pee spot probably 3 feet long and 1 foot wide.. it is HORRIBLE SMELLING!

and i have a dog and he just has a hay day with smelling it which is disgusting because i don't know how long it has been there... it was still wet when we moved in saturday and we looked at the townhouse over a week ago and he hadn't lived there then... i can't believe i didn't notice it then..

Saturday I did dump vinegar on it and scrub with a brush it seemed to help but just not enough..

Please help!

Try dish det. and rub in, then sprinkle baking soda on it and rub it in, let it dry and then vacumn.

If this doesn't work you can go get something at your pet store that will get the smell out.

When buddy was being housebroken and had accidents on the carpet, I would use dish det and a little baking soda. But if it has been there a long time you might have to go to the pet store. I think the stuff is called urine be gone. Or something like that!

Good luck!

Oh and another thing, watch your dog, because he will pee in the same spot just to leave his mark and smell. No matter how housebroken your dog is.

I did some back searching on past threads about this and found some items you could try. Here is the list:

-Biological Odors Many biological odors contain both alkaline and acidic components, hence the alternating of baking soda and vinegar. When in doubt for any biological odor, follow directions for "Pet Pee," below. Pet Pee – Vinegar and Baking soda, alternating. (Place white distilled vinegar in a spray bottle and spray it straight onto the pee assuming the area can handle moisture; let kit set for an hour or so before rinsing. Follow by sprinkling the area with baking soda. Mist the baking soda with water. Let it set for a few hours before vacuuming. Keep alternating until the odor is gone.)

-There is a product at Walmart called 'Kids and Pets', it was mentioned that it worked really well.

-You can also try using paper towels to absorb as much of the liquid as possible. With a sponge, apply a solution of eucalyptus oil and 1 tsp. of liquid dish soap. Let stand for 30 mins, then blot using a damp towel. I found this in a magazine.

Peroxide. Pour a bunch of peroxide on it, after a while blot it up so its not soaking wet. It'll take a while to dry, but will most definetly get the smell out. What a mess - its on carpet I assume?

I would use an enzyme pet odor remover...you can get it almost anywhere from large grocery stores to pet store, WalMart, KMart, Home Depot etc

Not at all. I use it on our carpets whenever we have a doggie issue. Works for any obnoxious smell actually. You can always test it in an inconspicuous place, but we havent had a problem with it - and Ive poured a LOT.

Unfortunately these dont always work. We've had several different brands and nothing worked, made it smell worse sometimes. I frequent a labrador forum like this one, and they swear by the peroxide there as well.
