I don't have to do this very often since we only have 2 smalls areas of hardwood floors. In my everyday cleaning I just use water and vinegar.
Once or twice a year I give it a shine with 'SC Johnson One Step No Buff Wax', but this stuff is quite expensive and smelly!

Is there a product that I can make at home that would give my floors a shine?

It really depends on what kind of finish you have on your floors...do you know what the finish is?

I use water and vinegar to damp mop the floors every week. That's it.
