Everybody has their favorite style when it comes to decorating with wood furniture, but what's you favorite color/kind of wood?

Here is a list of a few woods:

Ash
Beech
Birch
Butternut
Cedar
Cherry
Chestnut
Elm
Fir
Mahogany
Maple
Oak
Pine
Redwood
Spruce
Teak
Walnut

I go thru phases and depends on the house.

When dd and I lived in the loft I like everything done in black laquer because it just went better with the industrial feel of the place.

Then when i built my house after she moved out I was into antiques and like oak.

Now that our house is done in more of a country I like the pine and cherry wood and finishes.

As long as it is well made, where I don't have to buy new furniture every couple of years is my mind deal when buying furniture.

Depends on the room. LR & DR - mahogany; our bedroom is pine; family room is teak...I dislike oak. I think cherry wood is lovely.

I tend to use oak maybe because that's what I grew up with and it reminds me of that and also I have heirloom pieces that are made of that.

This is the majority of our wood furnishings. Although I really love the look of teak as well.

I used to be an oak girl and now I am tending to pick out much darker pieces...still haven't made it to Cherry though.

For furniture - I like a (very very) dark stained quartersawn oak. It brings out the beautiful figure in the wood, and some of it looks almost like a tiger stripe or something exotic. It's gorgeous. I don't like regular oak or natural oak, it's too bland for my tastes, and a little too popular. I also like mahogany.
