Growing up my mother had tons of hummingbirds! And my daughter and I just noticed one little bird flying around yesterday and we stuck out a feeder! Our one little guy is coming and going. Very exciting. Hopefully more will follow!

Now I'm researching them online and can't decide if it is OK to use red food coloring or not (my mother never did). I've found sites that state it is OK and others that say it isn't. I think, once we finish this bottle off, that I won't use the food coloring anymore just to be on the safe side. I know my mother never did and like I said, she had more hummingbirds that I have ever seen before.

Now my goal for this summer -- to get a picture of one!

We love having Hummingbirds, we actually have 2 sets of pairs every year. I never use the red food coloring and they always come back to our yard.

How cool!! I wish we had a hummingbird. I need to get a feeder.

I've been waiting for my hubby to make a bird feeder, I wish he'd just let me buy it!

DH's aunt & uncle have a ton of hummingbird feeders out on their patio and last summer when we were there, there must have been at least 30 hummingbirds feeding there. It was very cool to watch. Hope you get some more to join your lonely one now!!

No coloring is needed. SOme research says it's harmful but most say it's just not necessary. We don't use it and have 4 or 5 regulars. I am smitten with their little twitter around my kitchen window. LOVE them !!!!

I just bought a hummingbird feeder and nectar a week ago. The nectar is red when all mixed up. Is that bad? It came from Lowes. I've never tried this before and I'm wondering if I don't have any flowers in my yard will I still see them.

My mom always used (and I am too) water and sugar. 1/3 cup sugar to 1 cup water.
