Would you let your child pick their paint color for their room if the room needed to be painted anyway?

My ds wants his room painted bright parrot green.

One of us says, "No, way, it's our house. We choose the paint color."

The other says, "It's his room. It's only $35 to fix if we ever need to sell the house."

What do you think?

I would probably let him choose, but I would have him wait 3 weeks and see if he still wants it that color. I don't know where I got it, but whenever I have a decision to make (that doesn't have to be immediate) I wait (& pray) for 3 weeks and things just seem clear.

I agree..1 side says yes the other no.
Though I have read and seen interviews with Randy Pausch- The last lecture.
One of his "points" in it is to let kids do what they want to there rooms. He put up a believe some stars/moons when he was younger in his room and his mom still has not painted over his walls.

You are right- you can paint over it. My brother wanted his walls a bright blue and my parents let him- they have since changed it.

I think you should think about it it might be kinda cool. I like the idea of waiting to see if your child still wants that color. You could take him to a home improvement store and look at other color options maybe another color will be more appealing.

I always got to pick my color and so do my kids. My dh did not and he is really big on letting them choose their room color.

That said, I do try to influence them a bit.

Yes, I would let him choose. If you haven't already, I would get a bunch of paint swatches of that color and put them up on the wall and let him get use to the color, to make sure that he is positive about it. You could also get a really small can of it and paint a section if you're not 100% sure, but I would let him have a decision in it.

I would offer 3 colors to chose from. Children need guidance. He probably doesn't realize he will most likely hate it in a few months.

When our son was a teenager, we let him paint his room a very dark purple! People couldn't believe we let him do that. But I thought it was cool! After he moved out, it took three coats of white to cover it.
