-Hold papers on your desk.
-Control magazines on a side table.
-Hold collectables on a shelf.

A plastic tray/basket is useful for:

-Use on a bathroom counter to hold frequently used toiletries that can't fit in a cabinet or drawer.

Baskets and bins are my best organizing friends! I have baskets scattered throughout the house to hold all of the toys ds seems to scatter around. I also use baskets for magazines and books, winter accessories (hats/gloves/etc) by the front door on a bookshelf, and baskets in the bathroom to hold toiletries and such. In the cabinets I use the plastic shoeboxes to hold anything that doesn't need to be used on a daily basis. I love those things, you can still see what is in them, but they stack really nice, and can usually hold quite a bit of stuff!

Yes, all my baskets have a purpose:
Remote
Tissues
TP
Bread
Mail
Makeup
Toys
Books

I use plastic trays in the kitchen drawers.
