I clean our toilet bowl constantly, but I still have one tiny spot that just wants to stay put! I swear I have tried everything under the moon on it.

What happens when your gleaming white porcelain gets stained, or worse, has an unsightly ring? What do you use?

First secret is to not scratch the top layer off of the porcelin. Once the glaze comes off or gets scratched, it is very hard to get it clean again.

However, if that layer is now removed, the only way to get it clean is to grind the spot away. There are emery clothes and lava stones sold that do the grinding for you. It takes putting your hand down there - many people use rubber gloves reserved just for use in the bathroom - and scour away.

There is an old joke ...

One day a bunch of adult brothers were debating why the dog likes to drink out of the toilet bowl. Mom walks through the room and blurts out, "Because the water is nice and cool."

The brothers are stunned into silence as they wonder, "How does Mom know that?"

(Of course, we moms know the water in the toilet bowl feels colder because we've dipped out hands in it. Even through rubber gloves, you can feel the temperature change.)

I buy the wal-mart brand Denture tablets.

They work wonders, I drop one in and let it set overnight.

Wonderful stuff!

I try to use the brush every couple days with no cleaner and it seems to keep it nice and clean.

Hmmmm never heard of doing that before. I'll have to try it!

I use Lysol cling it works great but stinky so I'm going to try ruthie's method next.

Probably depends a lot on your water, but luckily I don't have a problem with mineral deposits or staining. I clean all our toilets a few times a week...I just use some cleaner and my own hand with a rubber glove and scrubby sponge (it is a toilet only designated sponge that I keep separate from all my other cleaning sponges). I don't like toilet brushes, I don't even own one.

I don't do it but here is what I posted in Money Saving for Household...

Toilet cleaner – Scrub toilet with leftover cola for a sparkling shine. Pour one can of cola and allow it to sit for an hour for stronger stains.
