OK, I switched from the liquid to the powder this time as the little spigot on the liquid broke and it was all drippy and nasty. So now the powder won't dissolve. Yesterday I did a load of darks. When I pulled them out to put them in the dryer, they were covered with specks of detergent. I washed them again (adding NO more detergent) and the rinse water was FILLED with suds.
I use the lowest measure amount on the cup - like 1/4 cup. This has happened like 4x so far. I've started letting the washer get about 1/4 full of water with the soap in there before adding clothes to make sure the soap dissolves. It doesn't. I've switched to warm or even hot at first even for things that are labelled "cold" - still doesn't dissolve.
Is it a problem with the washer or is this just a craptastic brand of detergent? Will I have this problem if I order that Charlie's detergent someone posted about in the green forum?

Huh. Weird! Could it be the kind of water you have...?

We have city water. Not on a well, not hard, not rusty...

I would say that maybe it was the temp of the water, but you indicated that you used warm and even hot water, to no avail. What brand of detergent is it?

It's whatever the Costco brand is. Kirkland.

Do you have a water softener? I've heard you don't have to use but like a tablespoon of detergant if you have a water softener.

I know you probably want to use what you have but you should try Charlie's Soap. You only need a tablespoon and it dissolves in cold water. I don't need any softner or dryer sheets. Our clothing is nice & soft. I am picky because I like the girls to have cozy clothes.

Welcome - Charlie's Soap

I bookmarked the page for Charlie's soap the other day due to this problem, but haven't ordered it yet. I do not have a water softener because we are on city water & it is not needed. I think I'll order the Charlie's and tell DH to return the rest of that GIANT box o' detergent to Costco. Of course it will be the far costco since ours is currently closed...

I just ordered it. I'll let you know how it goes!

Maybe I'll just donate the rest of the box to the homeless shelter instead of returning it to Costco. Seems that would be easier.
