Does anyone have any? I'm not doing anything big and I'm even thinking of making the cake myself. It will just be family and I'm not even inviting much of them.

I baked cupcakes for ds first b-day and made them into Elmo faces. I bought the ice cream cups so I wouldn't have to deal with scooping out ice cream. Then I just made a few simple appetizers. The only thing I had for decorations was an Elmo Happy B-day sign and a singing Elmo balloon. He went nuts over that balloon! I think I might have spent about $50.00 for everything. The presents were another story I went a little overboard.

My girls didn't eat cake or ice cream at one year old. They did LOVE balloons. Have you given him a balloon yet? That was the best part of the party at 1-2 years old. We had dinner with the grandparents, I made cupcakes and served ice cream. I did decorate with balloons and streamers around. The first birthday is a celebration for the family more than the birthday baby

My husband made our oldest homemade (welding and all) wagon. Our friend carved her name and Daddy's girl on the side rails. It is a unique item that we will probably never part with.

Our youngest got the short end of the stick. She got a pooh ride-on. She loved it but it has already found another home.

All we ever did for any of our kids' first birthdays was cake and presents with just immediate family.

I usually just pick an animal theme & make a small sheet cake for the adults & usually themed cupcakes for the kids and for the birthday girl (or boy) a small cake. I usually just have the family over & since my girls birthdays are August & May we tie some balloons & everyone just plays outside till time to eat. We did monkeys for oldest DD & the cupcakes were chocolate & decorated to look like a monkey face & I hung some of her stuffed monkeys on the swingset for extra decorations. We did ladybugs for youngest DD & the cupcakes were just chocolate with white icing that I rolled in red sugar & put chocolate icing dots on them. Both themes were easy to do the small birthday girl cake. I used the Pampered Chef small batter bowl to bake a small dome cake & turned one into a monkey face & one into a ladybug (using a portion of a cupcake to be the head). We fed supper, but just grilled hotdogs & hamburgers.
