I detest these things!

A month ago our neighbor was talking about how they are bad in this area and how it almost destroyed one of their bushes. They got a beetle bag but still have issues. Lo and behold yesterday I was noticing my hanging basket (petunias) were looking kinda bad (starting to get holes, etc), was thinking maybe all this hard rain- nope- stupid Japanese Beetles!

I was looking into getting a beetle bag- never had this issue before- so you know if they work decently?

i don't know about beetle bags but try a small garden center we have one here called earl mays and they have their own store brand of sprays one called home defense and i spray around my foundation and window sill then around all my maple trees(they love maple trees) this stuff stops them dead in their tracks but has no major odor and not a problem for pets and kids.. one application keeps us beetle free for the entire summer and fall.. two years ago we had a total infestation they were everywhere and getting in the house everywhere... so try a small reputable garden center for some advice.

We call these evil beetles in our garden

Last year we put two of the bags in the wood behind our yard and while the bags did fill up with beetles, if possible they just seemed to attract more...and as you know they multiply and multiply. We did find some success using Sevin dust, but you have to decide if you want to use that or not. I think I will follow brensmom's advice and ask the local garden center as I have seen them begin to make their appearance again this year. If they were in my house.....I'd do whatever had to be done to get them out!

We had them bad around here in Southern Illinois last year. I do agree on the bags that they attract more bugs for some weird reason. Sevin dust does work but a lot of people don't want to use it and I don't blame them. My grandpa taught me a old trick on them a long time ago but you might not like that either. He would get a can or bucket and dunk the beetles in gasoline.
Then he would take it somewhere far away or the burn barrel and light it on fire to kill them. Good luck on getting rid of them!
