I rinse mine out of habit, but I am going to try not rinsing anything and see how they come out.

I do wash pots and large items by hand. I figure large items uses less energy/water to wash by hand than running a full load of a few big items. I think I'd only run it twice a week, but our dishes are very large, especially the bowls, and take up a lot of space in the washer.
