OK Cheesecake Lady, I have a question. That is the same counter top, right? Did you have to completely rip the counter top out to reinstall the cabinets? Was there any concern about damaging the counter top?

Yes, same countertop - I replaced the white tile counter almost 6 years ago (they finished the install the night before I gave birth) to the granite and have HATED it with the light oak ever since.

We refinished the cabinets - so it is a maple "skin" (like a laminate) on the frame and sides which is then stained. The doors and drawer fronts are completely new which were ordered from a cabinet maker and stained in a shop. So nothing touched the granite and it didn't have to be removed. The pantry was a new build, but no granite in the way .

Here are a couple of pictures of what it looked like in the middle of construction. All the doors removed and thrown away (I tried to give them to habitat for humanity, but they couldn't use them). I can't remember if this the frame was sanded but before the skin applied, or after applied. Regardless, the second picture is with the new skin and new doors prior to staining. I know it is not showing the island or lower half of the kitchen where the counter is, but you get the idea.

Thank you!!! I am very happy with it (until I can see all the finger prints on the darker wood and have to clean it daily versus monthly).

I'll be even more happy with it when we get a new floor and new paint
