If I have a lot of laundry I separate darks, reds, lights and whites. Most often though I just toss in a load of lighter colors and then a load of darker colors. If I don't have much at all, I throw it all in together. I have never had a problem. I collect it all and sort it on the basement floor.

I have three large baskets in the laundry room, one for lights, darks, & towels. Usually if I'm washing sheets/bedding I take them straight from the bed to the washer. I have one hamper in the main bathroom that I take & empty when it starts to get full or I plan on doing laundry. I fold on top of the dryer or straight off the line & try to take & put them up as soon as I'm done. I can't wait till my girls are big enough to contribute by putting their own clothes up. My oldest will take her dirty clothes to the laundry room, but doesn't understand how to seperate so she just throws them in the floor, but at least they are in the right room - lol.
