I do mine by colors and then I keep jeans and towels seperate. My DH's work clothes are another seperate load as well as the kids. I also have different baskets, hampers or totes for them.

How do you seperate and do you use seperate baskets for each?

I do mine by color...

Each kid has a hamper in their closet and Dh and I have one in our closet. I just go around, and collect, say for example, all blue items. Sometimes if I have a lot of laundry, and I'm doing a bunch of loads in a row, I'll make piles in my upstairs hallway. LOL

I do all linens separate from clothing.

I don't really use laundry baskets for anything.

I separate laundry by whites, darks and light colors and I wash all the face clothes(I only have white or almost white ones), white socks, white/light underwear, white towels together on hot. Everything else gets washed in cold.

Each child has their own laundry basket that I fold their clothes into and when it's full they bring it up to their room to put it away. Their dirty clothes come down in hampers. I wish I had a better system, but it is what it is.

I sort mine by: towels, whites, colors, darks. Everyone has a hamper in their room, and 2x a week the kids are responsible for getting their items down to the laundry room and in the right color pile. I wash and put away!

I seperate all the whites. Other that that I seperate by who's laundry it is . This saves me alot of time as I can put it into the appropriate room and they can fold it and put it way.

Towels, sheets, jeans (and other heavy items with metal zippers), red, lights, darks. I have a 6 section hamper so I can a lot of sorting. Usually hubby does his own but I'll throw in his stuff when I have room. DD also has been doing her own (with supervision) because she has been leaving her dirty clothes on her bedroom floor and I refuse to reward that behavior. She is also to the point where she has to pick-up her clean clothes from the folding table in the laundry room because she hasn't been putting her clothes away.

When I haven't done laundry for a long time, I'll start by doing a load that is all underwear and pjs.

one hamper for all.
darks together( including jeans and towels if dark), bright colors together and light colors and whites go together.

3 hampers in our bedroom - lights, whites & darks. When one is full, I take it down to the laundry room & do laundry. If, while going thru what is in that hamper, I find something that needs to be separated out (something that is delicate, something super-dirty) I'll put those aside & do a smaller load (like just delicates/gentle cycle).

I seperate the clothes when I go downstairs to do wash. It matters on how much wash I have but most of the time it's only darks and colors.

Everyone has a laundry basket in their room. SS does his own laundry because he is old enough and I'm trying to teach him hygiene. I normally do lights and darks for my two youngest seperate from all the other laundry, but if I have room I will combine with mine.

I do whites in hot, lights & darks in cold. Then linens is normally a warm cycle. Towels are also in light or dark and I will combine with jeans or sweatshirts in cold.
