An unexpected HEAVY frost hit my garden last night!! Oh I am soooo mad. I watch the news religiously for warnings. Last night even the advisories weren't near our area. But sure enough I walk outside at 7am and our yard is White!! I start yelling and DH doesn't believe me until he steps outside. I may of just lost 25 tomatoes plants filled with tomatoes!!! There goes my pantry for the winter. Ugh!! My green beans, corn, tomatoes, cauliflower, you name it, where all coming along so beautifully and getting ready to ripen and be canned. I am soooo mad.

I just have to wait and see what made it thru. This year has sucked, it was cold this spring and the garden couldn't go in until June and now I have a Heavy August frost!! I was really depending on this harvest to help with our grocery budget.

And just think of any farmers north of us, they just lost their corn crop last night. Ugh!! What a day.

Well we will just keep our fingers crossed that our garden can be saved.

I am so sorry! I wonder how my parents garden is? They live pretty close to you I think. I will have to call them. I know that they are planning on canning their tomatoes and beans in a couple of weeks. I will pray hard that yours survived!

There has been talk of frost here. It is early. Let us know how it survived.

I am so sorry for you ladies! I hope the ground was warm enough to keep them from damage!! It sounds like it is almost fall there??? I wish!! We had 100+ yesterday and found out (to my delight) that the pool would be open until the end of September!

Thanks for your support ladies! It looks like the tomatoes may be okay, XXXX (fingers crossed) Not so sure of my beans though?? I have to wait to see if they die off. I told DH from now on if any county north of us has even an advisory for frost we are covering. My inlaws live 10 miles south of us and they didn't get any. So they are lucky.

I will keep you updated. MIL said she heard that if the tomatoes did get hit that I can pull the plant and hang it inside and the tomatoes will ripen. Anyone else hear of this?

Oh, that stinks! It's been cool here during the day, and in the 40's and 50's at night but not even close to frost.

Yep - it will work just fine. Yesterday I bought tomatoes that were shy of fully ripened, and they have gotten nice and red just overnight. Green ones will take a little longer. LOL I've always put them in a brown paper bag to speed the process.
