Whatever it was that took you away from your regular routine, the crisis is finally over. Now it is time to pick up and recover. Where do you start?

The laundry is piled a mile high.
You've never seen the toilets so grungy.
You can't see the bottom of the kitchen sink.
Dust is so thick, the kids are playing tic-tac-toe in it.
The kids are playing hide and seek in the grass in the front yard.
The refrigerator is bare.
You're not sure the last time you paid the bills or balanced the checkbook.
Everywhere you look there is clutter and over-flowing trash cans.
You've never seen the carpet exactly that color and the floor crunches when you walk through the kitchen.

What would you do first?

I start with the sink and dishes. Toss in a load of wash and take care of the bills! After that I'll go to the store.

I have been here (maybe not completely, but it sure felt like it!). Break it down and make it manageable...

1. put in a load of laundry
2. wash dishes, clean sink and counters
3. pick up general clutter/trash cans, quick dust and vacuum in main rooms (bedrooms can be done another day, do what you see most of the time first)
4. put on a video for kidlings; mop kitchen floor, clean bathroom and take a shower to degrunge (everything feels better after a shower)
5. take out for dinner: pay bills and grocery shop first thing tomorrow morning (I put this last because I cannot focus on organizing money when my house is a disaster)
6. with hold sex from dh until he mows the lawn, it ain't my problem!

That's a good idea!!!

1. I would start with the toilets by putting in the cleaner and letting it soak.
2. Same goes for those dishes. Take them out of the sink and sort them so it doesn't feel like such a mountain. Get a sink load started.
3. The easiest thing to get started with would be the laundry - maybe that should be number 1. Get it sorted and start a load.
4. Get those kids to dust after the tic-tac-toe game is over!
5. Then challenge them to try to make designs in the carpet with the vacuum cleaner. Also challenge them to make their own PB&J for supper!
6. Take the trash out. If it's not trash day take it to the garage and put a BIG note out to take it to the curb on trash day.
7. By now you can clean out the toilets pretty easy.
8. Now wash the dishes. Get the next load in the sink to soak.
9. While that's soaking mop up the kitchen floor.
10. Check on the laundry. Should be time to switch to the dryer and start another load.
11. I agree with the poster who said to withhold sex until that yard is mowed. That should work!!
12. Keep going on those dishes and laundry until it's all done.
13. Get a laundry basket and gather things from each room to put away to semi declutter. Work on one room for at least 15 minutes each day.
14. When the kids are in bed and you can concentrate get the checkbook balanced and pay the bills. Then you know what is left to go grocery shopping in the morning. (I agree with liamsmom that it's too hard to concentrate on paying bills and reconciling checkbook until the house is in order.)
15. The next day do that grocery shopping and some more decluttering THEN relax!!

Whew I'm tired just thinking of that!

OK , Well let me explain I Have A Freaky Fetish About HAVING to have My Upstairs ( Bedrooms ) spotless Before I Touch the Downstairs.
And My Laundry is Upstairs ... So Heres what I Do.

The laundry is piled a mile high.

I Would Get it under Control , I Would Sort it all ... and At Least Wash and Dry 4 loads And Put away 1 and Any Important clothes Like Undies or Jeans That they Need They Next day.
You've never seen the toilets so grungy.

While the laundry is In Process I would Be scrubbing the bathrooms!
Dust is so thick, the kids are playing tic-tac-toe in it.
Everywhere you look there is clutter and over-flowing trash cans.
You've never seen the carpet exactly that color and the floor crunches when you walk through the kitchen.

Everywhere you look there is clutter and over-flowing trash cans
I Would Then Straighten dust and Vac the Upstairs.

I Would Then move downstairs and Do the Dishes , and Clean and Vaccum everything!
I Would check online to Be sure I Have Made My Mortgage and Car payment , as well as Any other Bills I Don' t want to Mess With , Like electric and Insurance.
I Would Check My Balance online , and go Grocery Shopping For the Basics ...

I Would Put Off More in Depth Bill paying and Major Grocery Shopping till the Next week.
I think I Would Be too Tired

I Would Call DH at work and Demand He Be Home early to Mow the Jungle

I Can Guarentee you though , If our Grass ever Got that High , A neighbor Would Be Knocking at the Door to Volunteer to Cut it!
Our Neighbors have Immaculate Yards and I think It would Kill them to Look at ours Overgrown More Than a Little bit

Haa haa This would NEVER happen! lol anyway if it did Taylyn Im completely opposite of you. I have to have my visible areas spotless at all costs then the bedrooms are second.

so here's what I would do....
drop a load in the wash (and keep adding loads throughout the day)
clean the kitchen starting with the dishes
move on to the dining/living room
then the bathrooms
wake up dh (im usually up a good 3-4 hours before him!) and tell him to mow the lawn
once that is all done I would dust and then vaccume then sweep and mop
Then take out the garbage
do the groceries
get the bills together and pay them right before bed (not sure why but I always do this right before bed)

my regular daily routine is actually pretty similar to this except of course waking dh up lol and to a much lesser extent. but since i have visitors at least 6 days a week the house gets messy pretty fast and i have to clean every room daily. lol
