Inexpensive Valentine Date Ideas from our Readers

Date Ideas

I did this for my husband years ago when we were first married and money was very tight.  We couldn't afford to do a whole heck of a lot just starting out, so, I decided to give us a "Valentines Date" at home.  I took his fold away fish house and set it up in the house, draped Saran Wrap on the floor to give the illusion of ice and cooked a nice delicious meal.  He was welcomed home from work with a ice house retreat!  He did the same for me for our Thanksgiving.  Knowing that I've always wanted to see the ocean, he got a hold of a bunch of refrigerator boxes and drew the ocean with a bon fire on them, got a bunch of brown blankets and draped them on the floor to make it look like a sandy beach.  When I got home that time, I was welcomed to see the ocean and hear the waves crashing (as he bought a tape from a store), and HE cooked a wonderful meal as well!  It was the best Thanksgiving we had together! -- Stacie, 30, from MN

My husband and I don't enjoy crowds the way we used to. Especially when we're trying to be romantic. So we make it a point each year to celebrate Valentine's day on either Feb. 13th or Feb. 15th. We still go all out and celebrate the way everyone else does but at a fraction of the cost and we avoid the crowded restaurants, theaters. etc. Also, my husband chooses a different flower besides roses. For Feb. 14th we just build a fire in the fireplace, open a bottle of wine, and watch a romantic movie from Netflix (after the kids go to bed of course). So in the end, I get 2 Valentine's Days! -- Cindi, 33, from GA

Want to take your honey out for a Valentine's Day dinner but short on cash?  Visit www.Restaurant.com.  You can purchase $25.00 gift certificates for half price!  Yes, just $12.50!  You do it on line, print out the gift certificate and head to the restaurant!  (Just be sure to read it carefully, some restaurants do impose "no specials/gifts on Valentine's Day, Mothers Day, etc.).  If you have more time, you can even bid on these gift certificates on E-Bay and save even more money!!! -- Sue from PA
