Paper Mache Craft for Kids by Kimberly Danger

PAPER MACHE

2 parts water
1 part flour

2 Tbsp. salt

Newspaper strips

Mix water, flour and salt to make paste. Boil paste mixture over low heat and stir until thick and glossy. Use forms to create desired shape.  Dip newspaper strips in paste and cover form completely. Allow project to air dry for several days. May be painted with tempera paint, decorated with colored tissue paper, or any other way you can think of!

PROJECTS:

Use molds and forms you have around the house to make fun animals, flowers, insects, or anything else you can think of!  Fill with candy to make a pinata.  Use masking tape to piece together the parts of your creation while you apply the paper mache.

TO USE FOR MOLDS:
Balloons blown up small or large are great for round shapes
Chicken wire can be used for large projects. Try rolling newspaper to lake an arm or leg, or to add smaller details. Toilet tissue or paper towel rolls also work well for arms or legs.

Other Ideas to Use for Molds:

Juice Cans
Juice Boxes
Cardboard Ice Cream Containers
Detergent Boxes

Egg Cartons

Oatmeal Containers
