Real Mom
Profile
4.20.2006
Name: Maria T
Age: 26
Home: Cissna Park, IL
Family's Names and Ages:
Husband Tom, 35, Daughters Delaney 3 and Emily
10 mos., step-kids, Dakota 11, Brianna 9, and
Riley 7
Occupation:
Before staying home, I was a paramedic, I will
soon (hopefully) be a nursing student
If I had a day to myself...:
Go into shock!!! But recover fast enough to
enjoy a shower without having to stop to put
Barbie's head back on, go to a movie in a
theater with a target audience over the age of
5, and take a nap! And miss my kids and husband
like crazy!
Money Saving Tips:
Don't buy anything you can't pay for right then
and there, eat before you go to the grocery
store, take a detailed list, leave your husband
and kids at home! Anything you buy at the
grocery store is usually cheaper at WalMart (if
they carry it) We have a Super WalMart, so I
don't bother going to 2 or 3 stores for their
sales, just take the ad, WalMart will price
match. My husband brings breakfast and lunch to
work, he only eats out once a pay check. I also
round up to the nearest dollar when I balance my
check book, it doesn't save a whole lot, but my
husband sometimes uses the debit card and
forgets to mention it, I'm guilty too, and the
little stash has probably saved us from a few
overdraft fees or returned checks.
Bargain Hunting Strategies:
Wal Mart and Target have great clearance racks!
I got my daughter next years winter coat for $4!
Meijer has a lot of buy 1 get 1 or 2 free sales,
on everything from hot dogs to t-shirts.
Products we can't live without:
Mary-Kate and Ashley videos! It is the only
think that will keep my 3 year old still for
longer than 5 seconds!
In the Kitchen:
I always try to plan meals in advance to make
sure I'll have everything I need for the week.
If I need anything along the way, I have my
husband stop on the way home from work. He's
tired and wants to get home, he's not looking
around or thinking about other stuff to pick up,
he's goes for a gallon of milk and that's what
he comes home with. I usually can't do that! I
keep stash of snacks on hand that will appeal to
everyone. I also keep 3 frozen pizzas in the
freezer. When things get hectic, it's pizza
night, without the cost of take out!
Organization:
If you could see my house, you would see any
ideas I have don't work too well!!!
