how to make perfect hard-boiled eggs

Over the years, our Mommysavers Forum members have shared their tips on how to make perfect hard-boiled eggs every time: no fail.   To view the entire conversation, visit our forum thread:  What is your method for perfect hard-boiled eggs?.  Here’s a summary, along with my own findings:

How to Make Perfect Hard-Boiled Eggs

  • Start with eggs nearing their expiration date, as fresh eggs are harder to peel
  • Cover eggs with water in a pan that has a lid
  • Add 1 tsp. baking soda to the water
  • Add 1/8-1/4 c. white vinegar to the water
  • Bring water to a hard boil
  • Cover, turn off the heat
  • Let stand 16 minutes
  • Drain the hot water
  • Cover eggs with cold water and/or ice
  • Let sit for at least 5-10 minutes

Green in the yolk means you’ve cooked them too long.  Some people also recommend adding baking soda to the water instead of salt.  How do you make perfect hard-boiled eggs?  Leave your tips below!
