Kids Christmas Craft: Homemade Cinnamon Dough Ornaments

November 28, 2010 by Susie Chadwick 4 Comments

Here is a fun homemade Christmas ornament you can make with your kids! My 3 year old had a lot of fun stirring and helping me roll and cut out these homemade cinnamon dough ornaments.

Here’s what you need:

  • 1 cup applesauce
  • 1 cup cinnamon
  • bowl
  • spoon
  • rolling pin
  • cookie cutters
  • a drinking straw
  • ribbon

Stir the cinnamon and applesauce together in the bowl. Mix it thoroughly.

Roll the dough out on a flat surface to an even 1/4″. Cut out shapes with cookie cutters. If you are going to use these as ornaments, use the straw to poke a hole in the top of each shape.
(Would you believe we don’t have cookie cutters? We did our best with a butter knife and a cup.)

Allow to dry for several days, or bake for a 2 1/2 hours at 200 degrees.

Tie a ribbon through the hole at the top of each ornament, and hang on your Christmas tree!

Brings back memories! I made these over 20 years ago with my kids and I still have the ornaments! Costco sells cinnamon in large containers for a good price. Or try the dollar store. Such a fun activity with the kids
